We need new institutions to handle these challenges and enable both accountability and best practice sharing — and these institutions are finally starting to form (funding cycles are slow…). Policing is slightly different, and may not be the right frame.

I’m now directing a project addressing some aspects of this at a Center for Social Media Responsibility (new — no website quite yet; just this) with 3 years of seed funding based out of the University of Michigan.
